This year, thirty-one family-friendly tourism operators received the Visit Harghita - Family-friendly certificate at the initiative's press conference on Friday, 14 June. The event was hosted by the Boróka Guesthouse in Văcărești/Csíkvacsárcsi.

The Family-friendly campaign was launched in 2020 by the Visit Harghita team (Harghita Community Development Association) with the aim of making Harghita County a family-friendly tourist destination. Hotels, restaurants, tourist programmes, attractions and, from this year, events will be included in the Family-friendly package. To obtain the certificate, accommodation and restaurants must have a certification licence issued by the Romanian Ministry of Tourism and comply with the Family-friendly criteria. Tourist programmes must also comply with the same criteria. In addition, the Visit Harghita team will award the Family-friendly label to three tourist attractions each year, and from 2024 onwards, events will be included. Harghita Community Development Association staff visits all tourism operators applying for the Family-friendly certification. If a place or programme does not meet the requirements, applicants will be given a deadline to remedy the deficiencies, which will be checked again.

"We promote the Family-friendly places through nationally recognised influencers. Our goal is to continue to strengthen the image of Harghita County on the domestic tourism market, and the fact that we won the first prize in the promotion category at the "Destinația Anului" (Destination of the Year) tourism gala has contributed to this," said Bíró Barna Botond, vice president of Harghita County Council and president of the association.

Together with the certificates awarded during the press conference, as of this year, one hundred and eighty-eight Family-friendly tourism services with the certification are waiting for guests and locals in Harghita County. The organisers believe that every family can find the right accommodation, restaurant, programme and attraction for them. The Family-friendly places can be found on the Visit Harghita website and app, and a new printed brochure of certified places and tourism programmes is produced annually and promoted at tourism fairs.
